The Abusiveness of Smoking

I pulled up to an intersection while driving in my car, and beside was a mini-van. There were 2 young children in the back seat and a rather large woman driving the vehicle. Her hand was raised to her mouth and between her fingers was a cigarette. I proceeded to watch her take a ‘drag’ from it and exhale into the cabin of the automobile. It was a rather cold day and I assume the woman had chosen not to allow any fresh air into the vehicle because all the windows were closed. Throughout this event, what struck me the most was the action, or should I say, the reaction of this woman's children when that cloud of toxic smoke plumed from her mouth. They looked like they would do anything to get out of there. It was only a few seconds before both the kids started to cough. It was obvious that this woman was choking these children with her smoke.

So the question is simple. Is this a form of child abuse?

There is no doubt in my mind that it is. You could not get away with forcing a child to inhale toxic fumes of any sort let alone a carcinogen. So why do parents of these children get away with doing just that. They are forcing their children to inhale hundreds of toxins and carcinogens. These are chemicals that will cause cancer. The inhalation of these chemicals will damage a child's brain cells, neuron receptors and impair learning and motor function. With this in mind why do the parents continue to abuse their children? Yes it is abuse.

Oh no, spank your child and see what happens. The authorities find out and within the blink of an eye there will be government agencies crawling all over you telling you how bad a parent you are, but encase them in a box and subject them to an enormous amount of toxins and that’s just fine. I am sure spanking would be perfectly fine if the government could collect revenue from the action. They can call it a spanking tax.

Abuse? Yes it is abuse. It’s one of the worse forms of abuse there is. Look a few hundred years ago, there was no way to look into the effects of smoking but living in the 21st century, it doesn’t take rocket science to tell you that smoking kills, costs our health care system, which is money out of our pockets and that’s millions of dollars by the way, and has hundreds of toxic chemicals some of which will, not can, but will cause cancer.

The Government of Ontario has proposed a law to stop smoking in automobiles but hasn’t been implemented yet. For shame. Does this not mean that the Government is allowing and being a part of abusing children by letting these people lock their kids in their cars and subjecting them to cigarette smoke? Butt remember, spanking is against the law!
